Using Modern Portfolio Theory to evaluate potential investment vehicles while quantifying risk characteristics—not merely naming, or labeling the risk associated with various investment vehicles, as “conservative”, “moderate”, or “aggressive”–and constructing portfolios from a holistic, aggregated return stance, performance is less elusive and more easily controlled in difficult markets.
